Air Quality Fact

The Air District is authorized to regulate stationary sources of air emissions in the Bay Area, but mobile sources – such as cars, trucks, trains and construction equipment – actually contribute most of the air pollution in the region.

The Hiring Process

Vacancy Announcement Posting

The recruitment process begins with the Vacancy Announcement Posting. The Vacancy Announcement describes the position, and the steps that will be followed in the recruitment and examination.

Examinations

The first examination step for all recruitments is review of all submitted application materials to determine if the applicant meets the minimum qualifications stated on the vacancy announcement, and has submitted a complete application. Possession of the minimum qualifications is not necessarily a guarantee of further advancement in the application process.

Depending upon the number of qualified applicants and the position requirements, additional steps may include an application screening, performance or practical examination, written exam or oral exam. The highest scoring applicants in a testing step proceed to the next step until an eligible list is established. This eligible list may remain active for six months, for use in filling subsequent vacancies.

Notifications

Applicants are typically notified via email or conventional mail* of the following:

  • if you are eliminated from the selection process
  • if you are going to continue in the selection process
  • if you are scheduled for an examination
  • if you are selected to fill a position vacancy
  • if you are not selected, but will remain on an eligible list

*All applicants, including BAAQMD employees, must notify the Human Resources Office in the event of a change of email address or mailing address during any phase of the examination process.
