Air District Fact

The Community Air Risk Evaluation (CARE) program was initiated in 2004 to evaluate and reduce health risks associated with exposures to outdoor toxic air contaminants (TACs) in the Bay Area. The program examines TAC emissions from point sources, area sources and on-road and off-road mobile sources with an emphasis on diesel exhaust, which is a major contributor to airborne health risk in California.

On Road Vehicles

The Strategic Incentives Division (SID) administers a number of programs that fund projects to reduce emissions from qualifying on road heavy-duty diesel and light duty vehicles. The funds can be used to replace existing vehicles, retrofit vehicles with emission control devices, or be used towards the purchase of new vehicles. Project funds are available at various times for the following types of diesel and alternative fuel heavy-duty vehicles. Choose from the eligible project types listed on the left for more information.
