This Advisory is provided to inform you about activities of the District which may affect your operation. It is hoped that it will assist you in your effort to achieve and maintain compliance with applicable air pollution rules and regulations. ATTENTION: ASBESTOS DEMOLITION & RENOVATION CONTRACTORS
Effective immediately, application of solvent and/or removal of asbestos-containing floor mastic using a mechanical buffer and abrasive pads is considered a regulated activity, requiring notification and compliance with all of the work practice and waste disposal standards in Regulation 11, Rule 2.While floor mastic is considered a Category I non-friable material, EPA has determined that mechanical removal methods will render non-friable materials into Regulated Asbestos-Containing Material (RACM). The EPA determination is attached for your review. This is consistent with previous determinations regarding removal of mastic by mechanical means.
