This Advisory is provided to inform you about activities of the District which may affect your operation. It is hoped that it will assist you in your effort to achieve and maintain compliance with applicable air pollution rules and regulations.

ARCHITECTURAL COATINGS

ADVISORY FOR REGULATION 8, RULE 03: ARCHITECTURAL COATINGS

  • On January 1, 2003, lower VOC limits for some Architectural Coatings will go into effect.

  • Sell-Through: The new limits affect coatings manufactured on or after January 1, 2003. Coatings in compliance with the old VOC limits that were manufactured before January 1 may be sold until January 1, 2006. They may be used indefinitely.
  • Thinning: You cannot thin or reduce coatings with organic solvent beyond manufacturer's recommendations or to exceed the VOC limit. This does not apply to water or exempt solvents.
  • Close containers of any VOC materials (coatings, thinners, clean-up solvents) when not in use.
