Air District statement on Governor Newsom’s signature of AB 836

“The Governor’s signature of bipartisan AB 836 will give the Bay Area Air District an important new tool to help protect the health of Bay Area residents from the smoke impacts of devastating wildfires. AB 836 will allow the Bay Area Air District, and air districts throughout California, to work with local communities to create clean air spaces for our most vulnerable residents without access to filtered air. AB 836 will provide a much-needed respite from harmful wildfire smoke and fill a gap in current wildfire response to protect the health of Bay Area residents and all Californians.”
