Learn about the Air District's development process for Regulation 6, Rule 6, which is part of a set of amendments and new rules under consideration that would reduce emissions of particulate matter from various commercial and industrial operations.

Find out about the status and anticipated timeline of the rule development process. Information on hearings, workshops, and other events is provided below, along with supporting documents and materials.

The Air District has been developing a set of new rules and rule amendments to address particulate matter emissions from commercial and industrial sources. These rules and amendments are going to be proposed for adoption at a public hearing of the Board on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.  All documents in the hearing package are available to the public in the Documents section below. The comment period for the hearing package, including the rule language and the CEQA Negative Declaration, will remain open through Friday, July 6, 2018.

New Rule 6-6 is being developed along with a new umbrella regulation, Regulation 6, and amendments to Rule 6-1, to address particulate matter emissions from a variety of activities and operations. The Air District estimates that hundreds of facilities throughout the Bay Area may be subject to these new rules and amendments. An environmental impact analysis was performed and the Air District has determined that the particulate matter rules and amendments will not have a significant impact; a Negative Declaration, per CEQA, is therefore being proposed.
