The Air District is announcing the start of the Winter Spare the Air season, Wednesday, November 1. The Air District calls Winter Spare the Air Alerts when air quality is forecast to be unhealthy due to fine particulate pollution, primarily from wood smoke. When an alert is in effect during the Winter Spare the Air season, from November 1 through February 28, it is illegal to burn wood, manufactured fire logs, or any other solid fuel both indoors and outdoors in the Bay Area for a full 24-hours.

The Air District is announcing the start of the Spare the Air summer smog season, Wednesday, May 1. 

The Air District has issued four violations to the Chevron refinery in Richmond for the December 28, 2016, incident that resulted in an upset and flaring at the refinery and many odor complaints in San Francisco and Richmond.

The Air District is inviting residents to participate in the sixth annual California Clean Air Day on October 4. Designed around individual actions, the event is a statewide initiative built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to improve community health. 

The Air District will host an in-person open house on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 1 – 3 PM. at the Air District’s San Francisco headquarters at 375 Beale Street. The open house will feature informal presentations and opportunities for discussion on the agency’s draft Strategic Plan, which outlines the Air District's roadmap for achieving its mission, setting priorities, and securing resources over the next five years.
