The Clean Air Center Program provides funding for county agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area to create a network of clean air centers to mitigate the adverse public health impacts due to wildfires and other smoke events.

El 3 de diciembre de 2008, la Junta Directiva del Distrito para el Control de la Calidad del Aire del Área de la Bahía enmendó la Regulación 8, Regla 45: operaciones de recubrimiento de vehículos automotores y equipo móvil. Cualquier persona que participe en operaciones de acabado móvil deberá registrar la operación de acabado ante el BAAQMD y pagar las tarifas aplicables.

Las parrillas para asar producen contaminantes del aire, como compuestos orgánicos volátiles (VOC) y materia particulada (PM). Los VOC reaccionan con otros compuestos en la atmósfera para formar ozono a nivel del suelo, lo que se conoce comúnmente como smog. Las partículas finas iguales o menores a 10 micrones de diámetro, conocidas comúnmente como PM10, pasan a través del sistema de ventilación y se desechan a la atmósfera.

En 1998, la Junta de Recursos del Aire de California (California Air Resources Board, CARB) identificó la materia particulada (particulate matter, PM) de diésel como un contaminante tóxico del aire (Toxic Air Contaminant, TAC). Con el fin de reducir la exposición del público a la PM, la CARB aprobó varias medidas regulatorias que afectan a la gran mayoría de motores diésel que operan en California. El Distrito para el Control de la Calidad del Aire del Área de la Bahía (Distrito de Aire) y otras agencias locales de calidad del aire en toda California deben implementar estas regulaciones, también conocidas como Medidas de control de contaminantes tóxicos del aire (Airborne Toxic Control Measures, ATCM).
