The Air District is announcing the availability of funds to install cleaner heating options for residents located in areas highly affected by wood smoke and areas with disproportionate impacts from air pollution. The program will open at 11 a.m. on January 16, 2018, on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Learn about a program that will award grant funding to help accelerate the adoption of zero-emission vehicles and equipment operated in West Oakland and surrounding areas.

The Air District has three major projects that provide home air filtration units to individuals most vulnerable to wildfire smoke and air pollution.

Grants for homeowners to replace wood-burning heaters with electric heat pumps. A new application deadline has been set for September 24, 2024.

The Air District announced the recipients of the 2016 James Cary Smith Community Grant Program awards. The Air District used available funding to back 11 community-based partnership projects within the nine-county Bay Area region for a total of $261,274. The projects will increase awareness and engagement about air quality issues and initiate ways to reduce air pollution.

The Air District has expanded the eligible model year for participating in the Vehicle Buy Back Program to 1996 vehicles and older. Previously only 1994 and older vehicles were accepted. 

The Air  District will accept proposals for the Community Health Protection Grant Program beginning April 29 for up to $50,000 from community groups, neighborhood associations and other community-based, local non-profit organizations in designated Bay Area neighborhoods most impacted by air pollution.

The Air District is offering $6 million in grant funding to public agencies to support projects that improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by reducing vehicle trips and miles traveled in the Bay Area. 

The Air District’s Clean Heating Efficiently with Electric Technology, or Clean HEET, Program will begin accepting applications for grants that can help to offset the cost of switching from a wood-burning stove or fireplace insert to an electric heat pump. The program is designed to improve air quality in communities by replacing polluting wood-burning heating devices with cleaner heating options.

A decommission-only option is also available for homeowners to remove existing open-hearth fireplaces or older, uncertified wood-burning stoves or inserts. The Air District is announcing the expansion of its Clean Cars for All grant program, which offers incentives of up to $9,500 for income-qualified Bay Area residents to retire older cars and replace them with a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or electric vehicle, or to get a pre-loaded Clipper Card for public transit. 

It has been reported that companies throughout the Bay Area have received letters dated January 1, 2025, February 1, 2025, and February 14, 2025, with misinformation about the Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program. These letters were not sent by the Bay Area Air District or the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and contain misinformation. Please disregard these letters if you received them. If your company is registered in the Commuter Benefits Program, you can check the Commuter Benefits Program website to verify your company's registration in the system.

The Air District has opened the grant application period for the People’s Air Grant Program, a funding opportunity designed to support local stakeholders working to improve air quality and public health in communities disproportionately burdened by air pollution. The grant application period opens March 12 and will remain open through May 29, 2026.
