Research, Surveys, and Studies

Kristal and Whillans’s research shows how difficult it can be to get commuters to change their behavior. They suggest a wide variety of approaches to help make that shift, such as reducing parking subsidies, discussing commute program incentives during onboarding, and changing when and where work can be performed.

The study analyzes the responses of 76 employers ranging from 100 to 5,000 employees on the effects of their commute programs.  The employers were polled on a variety of topics, from how their commute programs were managed to effect on employees.

Thøgersen’s explains the psychology of habits surrounding commutes, and why timing is crucial for helping employers make the shift to a different mode of transportation.
