The Air District has settled 14 Notices of Violation with Valero Refining Co. for $191,500 for violations at its Benicia Oil Refinery. 

The Air District is sending representatives to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP27, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, from Sunday, November 13 through Friday, November 18. 

The Air District announced that Phillips 66 Company has agreed to pay $99,400 to to settle a group of 13 Notices of Violation issued for air quality violations that occurred at its Rodeo refinery in 2015.

The Air District has lifted the Spare the Air Alert that was in place through Tuesday and is instead issuing an air quality advisory through Tuesday, October 13, due to possible localized smoke impacts near the Glass Fire.

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert due to wildfire smoke from fires in northern California through Tuesday, October 13, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors.

The Air District has fined Marathon Martinez Refinery, which is operated by Marathon subsidiary Tesoro Refining & Marketing Company LLC, $372,500 for 13 Notices of Violation that include tank-related violations, uncertified pieces of equipment at their on-site gas dispensing facility and reporting delays.

The Air District showcased the Bay Area’s leadership in clean air, climate innovation, and equity at the United Nations Climate Change Conference or COP30, held in Belém, Brazil from November 10 through November 21. During a virtual media availability on November 13, Air District leadership reflected on the importance of local and regional action to drive global climate progress.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District will ask Bay Area employers to sign the Cut the Commute Pledge to extend remote work options for employees at a press conference in San Jose on Monday, July 13 at 11:30 a.m. A continuation of remote work can help maintain the Bay Area’s air quality progress even after shelter-in-place orders are eased.

The Bay Area Air District today announced $4,822,770 in funding to SAFETRANS Transportation Inc. to deploy electric school buses serving special education students across Santa Clara County.
