The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for Sunday, June 16, due to smoke from the Point Fire in northern Sonoma County.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s 2018-19 Winter Spare the Air season ended February 28, with 16 Winter Spare the Air Alerts called from November through February.

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for wildfire smoke through Wednesday, September 16. This will be the 29th and 30th consecutive Spare the Air Alert called.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District announced today that recent flaring incidents at the Chevron Refinery in Richmond have resulted in the increased scrutiny of monitoring data as well as investigations as to the cause of the events.

The Air District is investigating all potential sources for a series of rotten-egg odor complaints in San Francisco and Richmond - including two flaring incidents at Chevron as well as other potential sources such as ships, area landfills and wastewater treatment facilities.

The Air District's Board of Directors has voted to set the stage for Regulation 12, Rule 16 to cap greenhouse gas emissions from the region’s five refineries, creating a model for the state and nation to follow.

The Air District is issuing the third Spare the Air Alert of 2022 for smog for Tuesday, August 16. The Bay Area will also continue to have smoke impacts from the Six Rivers Lightning Complex Fire in Humboldt and Trinity counties. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy tomorrow, Tuesday, August 16. The combination of wildfire smoke with hot inland temperatures and vehicle exhaust is expected to cause unhealthy smog, or ozone, accumulation in the Bay Area. Smoke from Northern California wildfires is expected to continue to impact the region creating hazy and smoky skies.
