The Air District has issued Crown Hill Materials, a concrete facility in Vallejo, a Notice of Violation for operating a concrete batch plant without the required air quality permit. The Air District has also issued a cease-and-desist letter directing the company to stop operating the unpermitted plant.

The Air District is inviting Bay Area residents to provide input on two new draft regulations. Regulation 11, Rule 18 would reduce health risk to local residents from toxic air contaminants emitted by facilities in the Bay Area, and Regulation 12, Rule 16 sets limits on facility-wide petroleum refining emissions.

The Air District and Contra Costa Health Services are working together to investigate all potential sources of odors that fouled the air in San Francisco and Point Richmond earlier this week. Sources under investigation include the Richmond Chevron Refinery, West Contra Costa County Composting Facility, shipping traffic, and sewage treatment facilities.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to smoke from a structure fire in Redwood City for the afternoon of Monday, June 3. Localized smoke impacts are possible near and downwind of the construction facility including Redwood City, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Santa Clara and into San Jose.

The Air District has announced a $13.3 million grant to the San Mateo County Transit District toward the installation of new high-capacity electric bus charging infrastructure at its San Carlos facility. This SamTrans project will help accelerate the transition of the SamTrans bus fleet to zero-emission technology and improve air quality in communities most affected by air pollution.

The Air District is closely monitoring flaring at the Chevron Refinery in Richmond and has issued an air quality advisory as localized smoke impacts are possible near and downwind of the facility, including the Contra Costa County cities of Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole, and Hercules, as well as Solano County. This is based on current meteorological conditions which can change depending on the duration of the flaring. Residents should follow instructions from local health officials.

The Air District and Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson filed a joint civil lawsuit against Radius Recycling, formerly Schnitzer Steel Industries, for air quality violations related to the fire at the company’s facility in West Oakland on August 9-10, 2023. In addition, previous enforcement actions by the Air District and the district attorney required Radius Recycling to install new equipment that has eliminated hundreds of tons of air pollution and reduced cancer risk by 84 percent since 2022; today the Air District finalized the operating permit for this important equipment.
