The Air District is announcing the launch of its 2022 James Cary Smith Community Grant Program, which is funding more than 30 community groups and nonprofit organizations to engage community members in decisions that impact their air quality and health.

The Air District is warning unregistered Bay Area employers subject to the Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program that they could face financial penalties for not coming into compliance with the 2016 regulation. 

The Air District is extending the air quality advisory for potential smoke in parts of the Bay Area through Sunday, October 21.

Sharon Landers, interim executive officer of the Air District, has offered a statement about the Supreme Court's decision today that limits the U.S. EPA's authority to regulate carbon emissions.

Building on decades of reducing health risk and championing breathing equity for its most vulnerable communities, the Air District is reporting that industries are taking early actions to reduce their health impacts on local residents as part of the implementation of the nation’s most stringent toxic air pollution regulation. 

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for smoke for the far South Bay, including Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Gilroy through Tuesday, July 7. Beginning late Saturday, the Park Fire broke out east of Morgan Hill, and on Sunday, the larger Crews Fire started east of Gilroy. Air quality impacts are possible near the fires.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for smoke for the far South Bay, including Morgan Hill, San Martin and Gilroy, through Wednesday, July 8. On Tuesday, smoke from the Crews Fire east of Gilroy continues to impact air quality in southern Santa Clara Valley. 

The Air District is announcing the launch of the Charge! Program’s grant application process to access at least $10 million in grant funding to offset the cost of purchasing and installing new chargers for light-duty electric vehicles at multi-family housing facilities, destinations, transit parking locations, and workplaces across the Bay Area. This funding is available to businesses, homeowner associations, non-profits, public agencies, and tribes. Applications are being accepted now through June 6, 2025, at 5PM.

The Air District is encouraging residents to prepare for potential smoke impacts this summer to protect their health in the event of widespread unhealthy air quality.
