Air quality is an important consideration for schools when planning student activities, especially when the region is being impacted by wildfire smoke. The Air District is announcing the launch of a web tool that provides searchable information for all the notices of violation, or NOVs, that the agency has issued within the past five years. This new web tool allows the public to access enforcement information concerning NOVs issued to facilities across the Bay Area.

The Air District has fined Chemtrade $1,150,000 for air quality violations at Chemtrade’s sulfuric acid manufacturing plant in Richmond. The penalty resolves seven notices of violation issued to Chemtrade for violations that occurred at its Richmond facility.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for tomorrow, Thursday, August 5, and Friday, August 6. Smoke from the McFarland, Monument, and River Complex fires are expected to impact the North Bay and East Bay, but the smoke is aloft and is not expected to cause unhealthy air quality. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for Friday, September 24 and Saturday, September 25. Smoke from fires in Southern and Central California is expected to impact the Bay Area through Saturday, producing smoky and hazy skies. Pollution levels are not expected to exceed federal health standards and no Spare the Air Alert is in effect.

Smoke from the Old Fire in Napa County is expected to impact the Napa Valley. Isolated pockets of elevated air pollution levels are possible near the fire; however, pollution levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect and air quality is not expected to be unhealthy. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible and the smell of smoke may be present in the North Bay through Wednesday. 

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory due to smoke from the fire at Schnitzer Steel in West Oakland. Smoke from the fire is expected to continue to impact parts of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

The Air District is launching a new subscription service that will provide Bay Area residents with timely information about significant events affecting regional and local air quality.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to smoke for Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26. Smoke from prescribed fires near Pescadero may impact air quality along the Peninsula – south of San Francisco and north of San Jose. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. 

The Air District is announcing that Bimbo Bakeries, USA Inc., has agreed to pay $162,000 to settle air quality violations that occurred at its facility in South San Francisco. The penalty resolves two notices of violation issued to Bimbo Bakeries, USA Inc. 

The Air District is upgrading the air quality advisory that was in place to Spare the Air Alerts due to heat and wildfire smoke today, Friday, August 27, and tomorrow, Saturday, August 28. The burning of wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors is prohibited.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke in the Napa Valley through tomorrow, Thursday, June 2. Smoke from the Old Fire in Napa County is expected to impact the Napa Valley. The Air District is requesting an abatement order from the agency’s independent Hearing Board to correct air quality violations at Tesla’s electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Fremont.

The Air District announced today that it has fined Vulcan Materials Co. $228,000 for air quality violations which occurred in 2021 at Vulcan’s manufacturing plant in Pleasanton.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for this afternoon and early evening, Wednesday, July 19. Smoke from the Flat Fire in southwestern Oregon is forecast to be transported into the Bay Area this afternoon and early evening. The Air District has fined the City of Berkeley $130,000 for air quality violations that occurred at its landfill site at Cesar Chavez Park in Berkeley from 2019 - 2022. 

The Air District has fined subsidiaries of Kinder Morgan, Inc., an energy infrastructure company that operates pipelines and fuel terminals throughout North America, $226,990 for air quality violations at two fuel terminals, one in Richmond and another in San Jose.

Smoke from the McFarland, Monument, Dixie, and River Complex fires is expected to continue to impact the Bay Area, particularly at higher elevation locations in the North Bay and East Bay. The smoke is aloft above 1,500 feet and is not expected to cause widespread unhealthy air quality across the Bay Area. 

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke through tomorrow, Saturday, August 7. Smoke from the McFarland, Monument, and River Complex fires is expected to continue to impact the Bay Area, particularly at higher elevation locations in the North Bay and East Bay. The smoke is aloft above 1,500 feet and is not expected to cause widespread unhealthy air quality across the Bay Area.
