Air Quality Widgets

The Air District is currently in the process of developing Air Quality widgets geared towards the Bay Area.

What is a Widget?

Widgets are small components that can be added to Web pages. They are often small tools or mini-applications such as news consolidators, calculators, and daily / local weather displays. (You can't put a widget on your desktop; widget-like components that can be placed on your desktop or dashboard are called Gadgets.) To add a widget to a web site, a small chunk of code needs to be added to the web page on which the widget should be displayed.

Widgets currently available:

WidgetDescription
Spare the Air Alert WidgetPlace the Spare the Air Status Widget on your own website and "Check before You Burn" during the winter season and "Spare the Air" during the summer season.
Winter Season: The widget will indicate when wood burning is allowed in the Bay Area and when a Winter Spare the Alert is in effect that makes the use of fireplaces, woodstoves, pellet stoves or other wood-burning devices illegal. The widget also provides links to the Spare the Air website.
Summer Season: The widget will indicate when a "Spare the Air Alert" is in effect.
Great Race Widget

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District invites you to participate in the Great Race for Clean Air, a friendly employer based competition to reduce greenhouse gases and smog levels in the Bay Area. Employees are encouraged to use commute alternatives such as carpooling, vanpooling, biking, walking or riding transit to reduce their overall CO2 footprint. People can take advantage of the Air District’s Great Race for Clean Air Widget to promote and encourage participation in the Great Race for Clean Air among their contacts.
