Learn about improving transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the Air District’s permitting process.
The Air District has launched a suite of special initiatives to enhance permitting services, reduce bottlenecks, improve predictability, and strengthen engagement with permit applicants and local communities. These programs support implementation of the Air District’s Strategic Plan goal to be effective, accountable, and customer-oriented.
Below are current Special Programs within the Engineering Division:
The Engineering Program Manager (EPM) pilot program is a voluntary, facility-funded initiative designed to help address challenges associated with complex permit applications.
EPMs provide pre-application guidance, help facilities understand Air District requirements, and support applicants in navigating the permitting process. This three-year pilot program is open to facilities with complex permit applications and is funded by voluntary participants.
The Permitting Efficiency Taskforce was established at the direction of the Air District’s Board of Directors to support transparent implementation of changes to permitting processes, rules, and policies.
The taskforce brings together representatives from local communities, industry, and permit applicants to provide input on permitting improvements and strategic initiatives. Meetings are held monthly in a hybrid format, and materials are publicly posted.
