Learn about the Air District’s latest initiative that integrates new enforcement strategies to ensure compliance.

New 11/19/2025

The Air District is developing a Targeted Inspection Program to strengthen enforcement efforts in overburdened communities. The program will identify sites/facilities that have greater potential to impact air quality and public health, and it will prioritize inspections based on:

  • Compliance Trends and History – Evaluate inspection, complaint, and violation data to identify patterns across specific source categories or industry types. Targeted inspections will be conducted at specific sites/facilities and areas with compliance concerns.
  • Emissions and Health Data – Prioritize inspections at facilities with greater potential to emit and/or health risks.
  • Compliance Information and Referrals from Interagency Partners – Coordinate with regulatory partners on enforcement concerns to bolster enforcement.
  • Community Engagement and Partnership – Utilize local community information and experiences to target inspections at sites/facilities of concern.

The Targeted Inspection Program will modernize air quality enforcement and align with Air District Strategic Plan goals to protect public health and improve air quality more equitably in our communities.
