The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to wildfire smoke from the Moon Complex fire in Oregon for tonight, September 27, and tomorrow, September 28. Smoke from the Moon Complex in southwestern Oregon has been drifting southward offshore over the past few days and has mixed with the marine layer that is moving onshore over the Bay Area this Saturday evening and Sunday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, and the smell of smoke is possible.

The Air District's Board of Directors approved amendments to Regulation 6, Rule 3: Wood-Burning Devices and Regulation 5: Open Burning that will provide stronger public health protections and support wildfire prevention efforts through improved use of prescribed burns across the region.
