The Air District helped WattEV secure $4.1 million loan for a new electric truck charging project in Oakland. This is in addition to a $5 million grant from the Air District’s Community Air Protection or CAP program awarded in 2024.

The Air District's Board of Directors approved amendments to Regulation 6, Rule 3: Wood-Burning Devices and Regulation 5: Open Burning that will provide stronger public health protections and support wildfire prevention efforts through improved use of prescribed burns across the region.

The Air District is calling a Spare the Air Alert for smog for Saturday, October 5. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy tomorrow. Very high inland temperatures and weak offshore winds, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory due to wildfire smoke from Canadian wildfires in the Bay Area through Thursday, June 5. Smoke from various Canadian wildfires in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba is expected to impact air quality in the Bay Area through Thursday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level are hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible, and air quality may become unhealthy through Thursday, June 5.

The Air District is hosting a virtual public workshop on February 4, 2021, from 6 - 8 PM., focusing on developing draft amendments to Regulation 6 Rule 5: Particulate Emissions from Refinery Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Units, in order to further reduce particulate matter emissions from petroleum refineries.

The Air District’s Board of Directors today adopted amendments to Regulation 6, Rule 5: Particulate Emissions from Refinery Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Units to further reduce particulate matter emissions from petroleum refineries. The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to smoke from the Crystal Fire in Napa County for today, Wednesday, June 5. Localized smoke impacts are possible near Angwin and may impact the Napa Valley from St. Helena to Calistoga. We will be closely monitoring air quality for smoke impacts from this incident.

Strong high pressure leading to a triple-digit heat wave, combined with light winds and vehicle exhaust, is expected to continue to cause unhealthy smog, or ozone, accumulation in the Bay Area.
