Apply for funding to purchase, install, and operate electric vehicle charging stations.
The Air District is pleased to announce the 2017 Charge! Program, an incentive program that offers grant funding to help offset a portion of the cost of purchasing, installing, and operating new publicly available charging stations at qualifying facilities within the Air District’s jurisdiction.
The goal of the Charge! Program is to rapidly expand access to electric vehicle, or EV, charging stations in order to accelerate the Bay Area’s adoption of EVs and ultimately to achieve the region's EV deployment goals of 110,000 EVs by 2020 and 247,000 EVs by 2025. As of December, 2016, there are approximately 83,000 EVs registered to Bay Area drivers.
This program is funded through the Air District’s Transportation Fund for Clean Air Regional Fund, which provides grants to improve air quality within the nine-county Bay Area by reducing emissions of criteria pollutants from on-road vehicles.
An initial allocation of $5 million is available, and funding will be awarded to qualifying projects on a first-come, first-served basis.
The deadline to apply is July 28, 2017.
Both public and private entities are eligible. For a full list of eligibility requirements, see the Charge! Program Application Guidance(668 Kb PDF, 10 pgs, revised 04/21/17).
Please read the Charge!Program Application Guidance(668 Kb PDF, 10 pgs, revised 04/21/17) completely before applying; incomplete applications will not be evaluated.
Applicants must attend at least one mandatory pre-application workshop before submitting an application. Each workshop will be held online via webinar and is limited to 100 attendees. Registration is required.
The workshops will cover Charge! Program requirements, the application process and evaluation criteria, and grantee/project sponsor’s administrative requirements. The following workshops have been scheduled:
Based on demand, additional workshops may be scheduled in the future. Notices about additional pre-application workshops will be sent via e-mail to parties that have signed up to receive free TFCA email alerts.
Did you know that you may qualify for Low Carbon Fuel Standard, or LCFS, credits to help offset the cost of operating the charging stations? For more information, please visit the California Air Resources Board LCFS Electricity and Hydrogen Provisions web page.
