Smoke from the fires in Northern Sacramento Valley is expected to impact air quality in the eastern portion of the Bay Area down to Santa Clara Valley on Friday and Saturday. Residents in affected areas should stay alert to news coverage and health warnings related to smoke. Check air quality at fire.airnow.gov and take steps to protect your health from smoke. Learn how at www.baaqmd.gov/wildfiresafety. Pollution levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect.

Cynthia Prieto-Diaz is a dedicated public health professional and full-cycle biomedical engineer committed to advancing sustainability and addressing environmental health disparities. With a Master of Public Health from West Coast University and a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from California State Polytechnic University – Pomona, Cynthia brings a unique blend of technical expertise and a punk rock DIY (Do-It-Yourself) spirit to her social justice work.
Beyond dedicating time to fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for all individuals in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medicine), Cynthia is a strong advocate for environmental justice and is committed to creating a more sustainable and equitable future for all. Her involvement as a former Executive Leadership Team Member at 500 Women Scientists has deepened her understanding of the historical and ongoing injustices faced by women and marginalized groups in and out of science.
