Learn about the Air District's Office of Civil Rights
The Air District created the Office of Civil Rights to safeguard against discrimination, address disparities in policies and programs, and embed civil rights considerations across all Air District operations. The Office takes an affirmative approach to ensure civil rights compliance within the Air District and raises Title VI and California Government Code Section 11135 issues with agencies that receive state and federal funds.
The Office of Civil Rights advances key objectives from the Air District's 2024-2029 Strategic Plan, including: Strategy 2.10: Civil Rights Laws, which ensures that equity is embedded in all aspects of Air District operations; and Strategy 4.3: Consistent Permits, which promotes fairness and transparency in permitting decisions by integrating civil rights considerations into the Air District's permitting processes.
These plans ensure that Limited English Proficient (LEP) populations and individuals with disabilities can fully access and participate in Air District programs and services.
In addition, the Office of Civil Rights will also establish a transparent and accessible complaint process, empowering individuals and communities to report concerns about potential civil rights violations. Complaints will be thoroughly reviewed, and appropriate corrective actions will be taken when necessary. Through these efforts, the Office of Civil Rights works to identify and address discriminatory and adverse impacts on vulnerable communities.
