The James Cary Smith Community Grant Program supports community‐based organizations that build local capacity for environmental justice work.

The 2022‐2025 grant cycle, also known as Cycle 1, funded 33 organizations. Learn more about several funded projects and their impacts through the video below, and an Environmental Justice Success Stories document.

The Air District is partnering with third-party evaluators to assess impacts of the James Cary Smith Community Grant Program. The Air District is particularly interested in understanding how the grant program supports communities of color and communities disproportionately burdened by air pollution, or environmental justice (EJ) communities. Evaluation findings to date are in the documents below.
