The Air District and Aclima are announcing a cutting-edge air quality data program that will map air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions in all nine counties of the Bay Area — covering more than 5,000 square miles.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for Friday, July 19. Smoke from fires in Northern California is expected to impact the Bay Area on Friday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. 

At a public hearing today, the Air District released the 2024 Toxic Air Contaminant Program Annual Report, along with a user-friendly new web page that allows members of the public to view toxic emission data from a comprehensive map of permitted facilities in the Bay Area. 

The Air District is extending the air quality advisory for wildfire smoke through Saturday, July 20. Smoke from fires in Northern and Southern California is expected to impact the Bay Area through Saturday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. Smoke from various wildfires in western Canada and in Alaska is expected to continue to impact air quality in the Bay Area on Monday. Smoke from the Butler and Green wildfires is moving down the Sacramento Valley and is expected to continue to impact air quality in portions of the Bay Area on Saturday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy at times on Saturday. 

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for the Bay Area due to wildfire smoke from fires in northern Sacramento Valley through Monday, July 14. Smoke from the Butler and Green wildfires is still moving down the Sacramento Valley and is expected to continue to impact air quality in portions of the Bay Area on Sunday and Monday. Areas that are expected to be most impacted will be parts of the North Bay and East Bay and higher elevation locations. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map.  Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy at times on Sunday and Monday. 

The Air District has launched a new online civic engagement tool, Open Air Forum, which offers the public a new opportunity to interact with the Air District and provide feedback on specific Air District topics.

Smoke from the Butler and Green wildfires has been moving down the Sacramento Valley and is expected to impact air quality in the eastern portion of the Bay Area down to Santa Clara Valley on Thursday and Friday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy at times on Thursday and Friday.   

The Air District's Board of Directors adopted a bold air quality and climate plan, the 2017 Clean Air Plan, entitled Spare the Air - Cool the Climate (YouTube streaming video), which addresses air quality improvement and greenhouse gas reduction for the nine-county Bay Area region.

The Air District announced today that Air Liquide Large Industries, US LP, has agreed to pay $159,000 to settle violations that occurred at its hydrogen plant at the San Francisco Oil Refinery in Rodeo.

The Air District has lifted the Spare the Air Alert that was in place through Tuesday and is instead issuing an air quality advisory through Tuesday, October 13, due to possible localized smoke impacts near the Glass Fire.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to smoke from the Somersville brush fire in Antioch. Smoke from this brush fire is expected to impact air quality in eastern Contra Costa County on Wednesday evening. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict.
