The Air District and the West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project have released their joint West Oakland Community Action Plan, Owning Our Air, for public comment.

The Air District's Board of Directors will consider the proposed 2017 Clean Air Plan – a call to action to Spare the Air and Cool the Climate (YouTube streaming video) - at their regularly scheduled board meeting on Wednesday, April 19, starting at 9:45 AM. The 2017 Plan aims to lead the region to a post-carbon economy, to continue progress toward attaining all state and federal air quality standards, and to eliminate health risk disparities from exposure to air pollution among Bay Area communities.

The annual Youth for Environment and Sustainability, or YES, Conference, co-sponsored by the Air District, returns to the Bay Area on Saturday, February 24, 2018.  It will be held at Laney College, 900 Fallon Street in Oakland from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. The free day-long regional conference will bring together middle and high school students from the nine Bay Area counties to discuss topics ranging from climate change and public health to transportation and air pollution.

The Air District's Board of Directors adopted a bold air quality and climate plan, the 2017 Clean Air Plan, entitled Spare the Air - Cool the Climate (YouTube streaming video), which addresses air quality improvement and greenhouse gas reduction for the nine-county Bay Area region.

Today the Air District's Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve the community action plan, Owning Our Air: The West Oakland Community Action Plan, co-authored by the Air District and the West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project.

The Air District has made the draft 2017 Clean Air Plan, Spare the Air, Cool the Climate, available online, on Open Air Forum for comment through March 9.

In the wake of record-breaking wildfires and hurricanes that have decimated the U.S., the Trump administration has announced a directive today to order the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to rewrite the Clean Power Plan and jeopardize hard-fought climate gains. The Air District, in partnership with the West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project, held the first steering committee meeting today to develop a community action plan to improve air quality and public health in West Oakland. The City of Oakland, the Port of Oakland and stakeholders from the West Oakland community participated in this effort.

The Air District announced today that it has successfully secured a Closure Plan and Agreement with Martin Marietta, terminating operations at its Bayview Hunters Point sand and aggregate processing site at Pier 94. This action will require Martin Marietta to cease all sand and aggregate processing operations by October 31, 2023, and comply with dust control provisions until it vacates the site.
