The Air District will host an in-person open house on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 1 – 3 PM. at the Air District’s San Francisco headquarters at 375 Beale Street. The open house will feature informal presentations and opportunities for discussion on the agency’s draft Strategic Plan, which outlines the Air District's roadmap for achieving its mission, setting priorities, and securing resources over the next five years. 

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert due to wildfire smoke from the Glass Fire in Napa and Sonoma counties through Saturday, October 10, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. While onshore winds will continue to blow smoke out of much of the Bay Area, localized impacts near the Glass Fire will continue. 

The Air District is launching a new subscription service that will provide Bay Area residents with timely information about significant events affecting regional and local air quality.

The  Air District's Board of Directors has voted to approve funding for several key grant programs that will reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases in the Bay Area.

The Air District is announcing the development of a pollution reduction plan that will help improve local air quality and health in Bayview Hunters Point/Southeast San Francisco.

On September 9, the Air District will be hosting its final webinar in this summer’s Diesel Free by '33 webinar series: Why replacing diesel is a public health priority.

The Air District has settled a case against Chemtrade West US LLC for air pollution violations at its chemical plant in Richmond. Chemtrade will pay $135,000 in civil penalties.    

The Air  District’s Community Advisory Council will hold its first meeting January 13 at 6 PM. In a historic moment, the Air District Board of Directors approved the formation of the Air District’s first Community Advisory Council on November 17, 2021. The Community Advisory Council will advise the Air District’s Board of Directors on environmental justice and equity-based policy and is the first body of its kind at the Bay Area Air District.

The Air District will host a virtual public workshop to present, discuss, and receive comments on potential concepts to amend Regulation 2: Permits to protect communities overburdened by air pollution. 

The Air District is advising Bay Area residents that smoke from agricultural burns in the Northern Sacramento Valley will cause elevated levels of fine particulate pollution in the region today. 

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for wildfire smoke through Wednesday, September 16. This will be the 29th and 30th consecutive Spare the Air Alert called.

The annual Youth for Environment and Sustainability, or YES, Conference, co-sponsored by the Air District, returns to the Bay Area on Saturday, February 24, 2018.  It will be held at Laney College, 900 Fallon Street in Oakland from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. The free day-long regional conference will bring together middle and high school students from the nine Bay Area counties to discuss topics ranging from climate change and public health to transportation and air pollution.

The Air District is issuing the sixth Spare the Air Alert for smog on Wednesday, August 30. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. High pressure over the region will continue to produce clear skies, light winds and high inland temperatures across the Bay Area. These conditions, combined with motor vehicle exhaust, will produce unhealthy ozone levels. Smoke impacts from the fires near the California and Oregon border may also contribute to the formation of smog tomorrow.

The Air District, in partnership with the Communities for a Better Environment and the East Oakland community, will convene a community steering committee kick-off meeting on Thursday, September 15, at 6 PM. 

The Air District’s Board of Directors voted to adopt new amendments that will strengthen the agency’s wood-burning regulation to safeguard public health against the hazards of fine particle pollution, especially during wildfires.

On July 22, the Air District will be hosting the first of our Diesel Free by ’33 webinars: Do I have to go with diesel? Technology alternatives for vehicles, equipment, and backup generators. 

The Air District announced today that it will request that the agency’s independent Hearing Board issue an abatement order to shut down nine diesel generators at the Green Sage cannabis facilities in East Oakland.
