The Air District will host a public meeting session on Thursday, October 10, regarding a permit application that was filed by Radius Recycling, formerly Schnitzer Steel Products Company. Members of the public are invited to attend to learn about and comment on this permit application.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for Saturday, August 21. Smoke from wildfires in Washington, Oregon and Northern California, that moved offshore over the past couple of days, will continue to impact the Bay Area on Saturday. Lingering, lofted smoke over the Bay Area will cause hazy and smoky skies but pollution levels are not expected to exceed federal health standards. Air quality is expected to be in the good to low-moderate range on the Air Quality Index, so no Spare the Air Alert is in effect for Saturday. A Spare the Air Alert remains in effect for today, Friday, August 20. 

The Air District will hold a joint virtual workshop with Communities for a Better Environment on Friday, May 7, 2021, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM to present, discuss, and receive comments on the draft health risk assessment for AB&I Foundry located in East Oakland.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is lifting the Health Advisory & Spare the Air Alert due to significantly improved air quality conditions from favorable wind patterns and increased fire containment. However, unhealthy air quality will still be present in the immediate vicinity of actively burning fires.

The Air District will host a signing ceremony for mayors, city and county government officials, and leaders of industry and business from all over the world who commit to going diesel free by signing the Statement of Purpose to cut diesel use to zero by 2033. 

The Air District is extending the air quality advisory through Friday due to smoke from the Mineral Fire in Fresno County. Smoke will likely remain aloft, resulting in smoky and hazy skies, but fine particle pollution is not expected to exceed the national 24-hour standard.

The Air District's Board of Directors approved funding today for 92 new plug-in electric vehicle charging stations throughout the nine-county region. The project will provide grants for the installation of new, publicly available EV charging stations along major transportation corridors, at workplaces, and at key locations.

The Air District will honor Central Concrete with the Spare the Air Leadership Award on Thursday, May 28, at the 2020 Acterra Business Environmental Awards online awards ceremony. This year’s award ceremony is being be held online in accordance with local shelter-in-place guidelines due to COVID-19. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for the Novato area due to smoke from a fire at the Redwood Landfill. Smoke is drifting throughout the Novato area and will continue to impact the community until the fire is out and winds increase later this afternoon. 

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is issuing the second Spare the Air Alert for smog on Friday, July 14, 2023. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy tomorrow, Friday, July 14. Hot inland temperatures, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.

The Air District has reached a pivotal settlement with Chevron that will significantly enhance air monitoring data transparency, providing more information about air pollutants around the Richmond refinery. The agreement requires Chevron to take new data access and community engagement actions beyond those required by regulation or permit.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to smoke from the Somersville brush fire in Antioch. Smoke from this brush fire is expected to impact air quality in eastern Contra Costa County on Wednesday evening. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. The Air District will continue to monitor conditions to see if impacts will continue on Thursday. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy as of Wednesday evening.

The Air District is announcing the availability of funds to install cleaner heating options for residents located in areas highly affected by wood smoke and areas with disproportionate impacts from air pollution. The program will open at 11 a.m. on January 16, 2018, on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Air quality in the Bay Area continues to be very unhealthy, especially in the fire-impacted counties of Napa, Sonoma and Solano. The smoke plume from the fires has now moved to the South Bay and air quality will be unpredictable and impact the entire Bay Area through the weekend.
