    The Air District is extending a Spare the Air Alert for wildfire smoke through Sunday, August 30, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. Wildfire smoke from the numerous fires inside and outside of the Bay Area will continue to cause elevated levels of smoke pollution over the weekend in localized portions of the North Bay and Santa Clara County near the fires.

    The Air District is closely monitoring flaring at the Chevron Refinery in Richmond and has issued an air quality advisory as localized smoke impacts are possible near and downwind of the facility, including the Contra Costa County cities of Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole, and Hercules, as well as Solano County. This is based on current meteorological conditions which can change depending on the duration of the flaring. Residents should follow instructions from local health officials.

Smoke impacts are forecast to be more widespread than last week. Air quality is expected to be in the mid to high-moderate range and not exceed the federal health standard, so no Spare the Air Alert is in effect. However, smoke may mix to the surface at times causing intermittent and isolated pockets of elevated pollution levels.

    The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for smoke for the upper portion of the North Bay tomorrow, Friday, November 1, through Sunday. Winds will be light near the fires which will allow some of the smoke to drop south to Windsor, Santa Rosa and potentially northern Napa Valley. Air quality in the upper North Bay will be moderate with some hourly readings in the unhealthy for sensitive groups range on the Air Quality Index scale. For the rest of the Bay Area, air quality is expected to be in the good to moderate range for the rest of the week.

While good to moderate air quality is expected through most of the region tomorrow, air quality is forecast to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range in Windsor and Santa Rosa. Moderate air quality is expected throughout the rest of the North Bay with areas near the fire still impacted by unhealthy air quality. Air quality should be in the good to moderate range for the rest of the week for most of the Bay Area – which is normal this time of year.
