The Air District announced that Chevron USA Inc. has agreed to pay $170,000 to settle air quality violations at its refinery in Richmond. The settlement covers 25 Notices of Violation issued for air quality violations at the Richmond Oil Refinery during 2014 and 2015.

Today, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is issuing the first Spare the Air Alert for smog in 2020. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy tomorrow, Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Light winds combined with triple-digit inland temperatures and vehicle exhaust are expected to cause unhealthy smog, or ozone, accumulation in the Bay Area.

This action will require Martin Marietta to cease all sand and aggregate processing operations by October 31, 2023, and comply with dust control provisions until it vacates the site.

Additional smoke impacts are expected to spread across the Bay Area starting this evening.
