The Air District is announcing the award of a loan guarantee to UCAP Power, a provider of ultracapacitor systems that offer reliable, cost-effective high-power energy storage, to support clean energy in the region. 

In the wake of record-breaking wildfires and hurricanes that have decimated the U.S., the Trump administration has announced a directive today to order the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to rewrite the Clean Power Plan and jeopardize hard-fought climate gains. The effects of climate change are being realized worldwide as global temperatures rise and catastrophic weather patterns escalate.

The Air District has awarded a loan guarantee to Gridscape Solutions, a developer of renewable energy microgrid solutions in California. Gridscape’s microgrids integrate several technologies, including solar panels and lithium-ion battery energy storage systems, to provide renewable power, clean emergency backup power, and grid resiliency. 

Due to the significant heat wave and energy shortages, Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency that allows the use of backup generators and similar backup power sources to reduce the strain on grid-based electrical power.  The proclamation is in effect until 11:59 PM on September 8.

Jack Broadbent, executive officer of the Air District, offered a statement in support of the State of California’s decision to sue the Trump Administration over their plans to gut restrictions to the 2015 Clean Power Plan.

The Air District is inviting residents to provide input on revisions to Regulation 2, Rule 5 – New Source Review of Toxic Air Contaminants. The Air District’s New Source Review Program protects air quality when large air pollution sources such as factories and power plants are newly built or modified.
