The Air District is asking residents to not burn wood over the Thanksgiving holiday to help reduce air pollution and protect public health. As we enter the holiday season, gathering around a fireplace may be a tradition for many, but there are serious health impacts associated with wood burning.

The Air District has issued the following prescribed burn notice effective October 17 -24, 2025.

If these conditions continue, there may be an exceedance of the federal health standard. A Winter Spare the Air Alert is NOT in effect today and wood burning is not illegal, but it is strongly discouraged.

The Air District is issuing the first Spare the Air Alert of 2021 for smog on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. Light winds and hot temperatures, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.
