The Air District is sending representatives to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP29, in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11 through November 22. Air District Board of Directors Chair Davina Hurt and Executive Officer Dr. Philip Fine will hold a virtual press conference on Tuesday, November 19 at 10 AM. The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for the Bay Area due to wildfire smoke from fires in northern Sacramento Valley for today, Thursday, July 10, and Friday, July 11. Smoke from the Butler and Green wildfires has been moving down the Sacramento Valley and is expected to impact air quality in the eastern portion of the Bay Area down to Santa Clara Valley on Thursday and Friday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy at times on Thursday and Friday.   

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke through Wednesday, August 23. Smoke from numerous fires in Northern California is expected to impact air quality throughout the Bay Area on Tuesday and Wednesday, causing air quality to reach moderate on the U.S. EPA’s Air Quality Index. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible and the smell of smoke is possible. Pollutant levels are NOT expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard and there is no Spare the Air Alert in effect.

The Air District has filed a lawsuit against Acme Fill Corp. for illegally emitting high levels of methane and other organic compounds from its landfill in Martinez. The complaint, filed today in Contra Costa County Superior Court, seeks monetary penalties for multiple violations of state and local air quality regulations following a compliance inspection conducted by the Air District on August 24, 2023.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for the Bay Area due to wildfire smoke from fires in northern Sacramento Valley through Monday, July 14. Smoke from the Butler and Green wildfires is still moving down the Sacramento Valley and is expected to continue to impact air quality in portions of the Bay Area on Sunday and Monday. Areas that are expected to be most impacted will be parts of the North Bay and East Bay and higher elevation locations. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map.  Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy at times on Sunday and Monday.

Smoke from numerous fires in Northern California and the Plant Fire in Southern California is expected to impact air quality throughout the Bay Area on Sunday and Monday, causing air quality to reach low-moderate on the U.S. EPA’s Air Quality Index. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible and the smell of smoke is possible. Pollutant levels are NOT expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard and there is no Spare the Air Alert in effect.

Smoke from the Smith River Complex and other fires in Northern California is expected to impact air quality throughout the Bay Area on Friday, causing air quality to reach low-moderate on the U.S. EPA’s Air Quality Index. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible and the smell of smoke is possible. Pollutant levels are NOT expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard and there is no Spare the Air Alert in effect.

The program will open at 10AM on August 26, 2016, on a first-come, first-served basis for homeowners and landlords to replace their wood burning device. Funding will be prioritized for low-income residents, residents located in areas highly affected by wood smoke, and households exempt from burn bans due to a wood-burning device being the sole source of heat. Starting November 1, 2016, anyone whose sole source of heat is a wood-burning device must use an EPA-certified or pellet-fueled device that is registered with the Air District to qualify for an exemption.
