The Bay Area Air Quality Management District announced that Tesoro Refining & Marketing Co. has agreed to pay $4 million to settle alleged air pollution violations at its Golden Eagle Refinery in Martinez.

The Air District’s Board of Directors approved the allocation of $3 million to support the electrification of the Caltrain corridor between San Francisco and San Jose.

The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for smog for Tuesday, September 3 through Wednesday, September 4. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. High inland temperatures and light winds, combined with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.
