The Air District is sending representatives to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP29, in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11 through November 22. Air District Board of Directors Chair Davina Hurt and Executive Officer Dr. Philip Fine will hold a virtual press conference on Tuesday, November 19 at 10 AM. The Air District is sending representatives to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP27, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, from Sunday, November 13 through Friday, November 18. 

Today, the South Coast Air Quality Management District filed a petition challenging the U.S. EPA and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s rollbacks to the Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient Vehicles Rule initiated by the Trump Administration. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District have joined South Coast AQMD as co-petitioners.

The Air District is advising Bay Area residents that smoke from the wildfires around California is impacting many parts of the region. Particulate pollution from the fires increased late Saturday, with high levels throughout much of the Bay Area Sunday morning. Particulate pollution levels are expected to remain elevated through today and may not ease until Monday.

These letters were not sent by the Bay Area Air District or the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and contain misinformation. Please disregard these letters if you received them. If your company is registered in the Commuter Benefits Program, you can check the Commuter Benefits Program website to verify your company's registration in the system.

The deadline to apply to the Air District’s Clean HEET Program has been extended to September 30, 2025. Clean HEET grants are currently available to help offset the cost of switching from wood-burning or pellet-burning stoves, fireplace inserts, or open-hearth fireplaces to an electric heat pump. A decommission-only option is also available for homeowners to remove existing open-hearth fireplaces or older, uncertified wood-burning stoves or inserts.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory through Thursday, August 9, in the Bay Area. The Bay Area may experience smoke impacts from the Mendocino Complex Fire and other wildfires.

The Air District's Board of Directors voted today to support the Paris climate agreement and move forward with significant climate efforts despite the Trump administration signaling the United States’ withdrawal from the landmark international climate accord.
