The Winter Spare the Air season begins Sunday, November 1. During a Winter Spare the Air Alert, it is illegal to burn wood, manufactured firelogs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. The season lasts until February 29, 2016.

The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for today, Sunday, December 8, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. Regional wood burning and easterly winds transporting air pollution into the Bay Area from the Central Valley have contributed to high overnight concentrations of fine particle pollution and unhealthy air quality. Although light northerly winds will bring some improvement later in the afternoon and evening, parts of the Bay Area will still experience unhealthy air quality throughout the day. Breezier northeasterly winds will bring more substantial improvement in air quality for Monday.  

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for wildfire smoke from the Glass Fire in Napa County and for smog through Monday, September 28, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors.

The Air District is extending a Spare the Air Alert through Sunday, January 18, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. A Spare the Air Alert remains in effect today, Saturday, January 17.

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert that is in place today, Saturday, August 28, through tomorrow, Sunday, August 29, due to wildfire smoke. The burning of wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors is prohibited.

The Air District is extending a Spare the Air Alert for wildfire smoke through Thursday, September 3, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. This is the longest stretch of consecutive Spare the Air Alerts ever in the Bay Area.

The Air District is upgrading the air quality advisory that was in place to Spare the Air Alerts due to heat and wildfire smoke today, Friday, August 27, and tomorrow, Saturday, August 28. The burning of wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors is prohibited.
