If these conditions continue, there may be an exceedance of the federal health standard. A Winter Spare the Air Alert is NOT in effect today and wood burning is not illegal, but it is strongly discouraged.

The Air District is announcing that its independent Hearing Board has ordered Martin Marietta to get a permit for the company’s sand distribution plant located at Pier 92 in Bayview Hunters Point, San Francisco. The Hearing Board has also imposed restrictions on the plant’s operations to reduce emissions and protect public health.

During this challenging time, the Air District is asking the public to not burn wood in their fireplaces, outdoor fire pits or woodstoves during the shelter-in-place order for COVID-19 to protect the respiratory health of all Bay Area residents.

The Air District has reached a pivotal settlement with Chevron that will significantly enhance air monitoring data transparency, providing more information about air pollutants around the Richmond refinery.
