The Bay Area Air Quality Management District announced today that recent flaring incidents at the Chevron Refinery in Richmond have resulted in the increased scrutiny of monitoring data as well as investigations as to the cause of the events.

The Air District announced today that Browning-Ferris Industries of California, Inc., and International Disposal Corp. of California, operators of the Newby Island Landfill, have agreed to pay $210,000 to settle violations that occurred at the landfill located in Milpitas.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for smoke in Southern Solano, northern Contra Costa, and northwestern Alameda counties, specifically communities between I-80 and I-680 bridges (Martinez, Pacheco, Concord and Port Chicago), but with some impact possible southward to Oakland, due to a fire at Valero.

The Air District responded to a fire last night at the Sims Metal Management facility in Richmond. Four Air District inspectors were sent to the scene to provide support to first responders.

The Air District announced today that it is seeking an abatement order from the agency’s independent Hearing Board to require Valero Refining Co. to cease ongoing violations of Air District regulations at its Benicia refinery.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for smoke in Contra Costa and Solano counties due to a fire at MRC’s Martinez refinery.

The Air District is closely monitoring flaring at the Chevron Refinery in Richmond and has issued an air quality advisory as localized smoke impacts are possible near and downwind of the facility, including the Contra Costa County cities of Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole, and Hercules, as well as Solano County. This is based on current meteorological conditions which can change depending on the duration of the flaring. Residents should follow instructions from local health officials.

The Air District announced today that its independent Hearing Board, a quasi-judicial independent body authorized under state law, has approved an abatement order for Valero Refining Co. to cease unreported emissions at its Benicia oil refinery as safely and expeditiously as possible. 

The Air District is announcing that it will bring an abatement order to correct air quality violations for faulty emissions monitoring at Chemtrade’s Richmond facility in front of the agency’s independent Hearing Board on April 12 at 1:30 PM.
