The Air District’s Clean HEET Program is now accepting applications for grants that can help to offset the cost of switching from wood-burning or pellet-burning stoves, fireplace inserts, or open-hearth fireplaces to an electric heat pump. A decommission-only option is also available for homeowners to remove existing open-hearth fireplaces or older, uncertified wood-burning stoves or inserts. Switching to an electric heat pump helps improve air quality in communities by replacing polluting wood-burning devices with cleaner heating options. 

The Air District’s Clean Heating Efficiently with Electric Technology, or Clean HEET, Program will begin accepting applications for grants that can help to offset the cost of switching from a wood-burning stove or fireplace insert to an electric heat pump. The program is designed to improve air quality in communities by replacing polluting wood-burning heating devices with cleaner heating options. 

The Air District has awarded a loan guarantee to EV Life, a startup working to eliminate the green premium on electric vehicles for millions of people who find the upfront cost of driving electric challenging.

In an effort to enhance the ability of the public to make timely comments on all new or modified permit applications, the Air District is implementing a fixed 10-Day Public Participation Period at the beginning of its permit evaluation process.

The Air District and the steering committee for the Richmond–San Pablo Community Air Monitoring Plan will host the Path to Clean Air Community Summit on Saturday, November 2, from 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium located at 403 Civic Center Plaza in Richmond.

The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for tomorrow, Tuesday, December 26, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. The Air District has awarded a loan guarantee to Gridscape Solutions, a developer of renewable energy microgrid solutions in California. Gridscape’s microgrids integrate several technologies, including solar panels and lithium-ion battery energy storage systems, to provide renewable power, clean emergency backup power, and grid resiliency. 

The Air District is announcing the launch of a web tool that provides searchable information for all the notices of violation, or NOVs, that the agency has issued within the past five years. This new web tool allows the public to access enforcement information concerning NOVs issued to facilities across the Bay Area.

The Air District has awarded a loan guarantee to King Solarman, a provider of smart solar generators in California. Their products replace loud and aging diesel generators used for mobile light towers and surveillance stations.

The Air District will host a signing ceremony for mayors, city and county government officials, and leaders of industry and business from all over the world who commit to going diesel free by signing the Statement of Purpose to cut diesel use to zero by 2033.

The Air District announced today the release of the draft Path to Clean Air Community Emissions Reduction Plan for Richmond-North Richmond-San Pablo. The draft plan is now open to the public for review and comment through January 19, 2024.

The Air District is investigating all potential sources for a series of rotten-egg odor complaints in San Francisco and Richmond - including two flaring incidents at Chevron as well as other potential sources such as ships, area landfills and wastewater treatment facilities.

The Air District is holding an open house in Dublin/Pleasanton on Monday, February 8, to present and get public input on potential new control measures and strategies that may be included in the 2016 Clean Air Plan/Regional Climate Protection Strategy. The meeting will also offer an opportunity for the public to learn about proposed revisions to the Air District’s New Source Review of Toxic Air Contaminants rule. 

During this challenging time, the Air District is asking the public to not burn wood in their fireplaces, outdoor fire pits or woodstoves during the shelter-in-place order for COVID-19 to protect the respiratory health of all Bay Area residents.

The Air District celebrated the exceptional public service of outgoing Board Director and former Mayor of the City of Berkeley, Thomas H. Bates, by awarding him a Lifetime Achievement Award at today’s Board of Directors meeting. The Lifetime Achievement Award is the first of its kind issued by the Air District and honors the distinguished career of those serving to improve air quality and protect the climate for all residents of the Bay Area.
