The Air District and the steering committee for the Richmond–San Pablo Community Air Monitoring Plan will host the Path to Clean Air Community Summit on Saturday, November 2, from 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium located at 403 Civic Center Plaza in Richmond.

Starting July 1, 2024, the Air District will offer $1,500 to Bay Area residents to improve local air quality by scrapping their 1998 and older vehicles through the Vehicle Buy Back Program.

The Air District will host its first career fair on Tuesday, October 6, from 10am to 2pm at Saint Mary's Cathedral in the St. Francis Hall. The career fair will provide information about job opportunities at the Air District, and will give attendees an opportunity to speak to current employees about their areas of expertise.

The conversation will focus on community questions and concerns regarding air quality issues and climate change.

On July 15, 2020, the Air District’s Board of Directors will hold a public hearing to consider approval of Emissions Statement Certification for the 1997, 2008 and 2015 8-hour Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards.  The public comment period is now open and will close on Monday, July 6, 2020.

The conversation will focus on community questions and concerns regarding air quality issues and climate change. 

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for wildfire smoke through Friday, September 11. This will be the 24th and 25th consecutive Spare the Air Alert called. Smoke from the many fires throughout California will continue to impact the Bay Area and produce unhealthy air quality in the region through Friday.

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for smog through Thursday, September 8. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. Continued high pressure over the region will result in clear skies, light winds, and hot temperatures across the Bay Area. These conditions, combined with motor vehicle exhaust, will produce unhealthy ozone levels.

The Air District and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission today marked the 10-year anniversary of the Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program, which requires employers with 50 or more full-time employees in the region to enroll in the program, select the commuter benefit option they will provide, and identify how they will promote that benefit to employees.

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for smog through Wednesday, September 7. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. High-pressure over the region will continue to produce clear skies, light winds and very hot temperatures across the Bay Area. These conditions, combined with motor vehicle exhaust, will produce unhealthy ozone levels.

The New Clean Air Plan will help maintain and improve regional ambient air quality while also addressing disparate local air pollution burdens.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for smoke for the upper portion of the North Bay tomorrow, Friday, November 1, through Sunday. Winds will be light near the fires which will allow some of the smoke to drop south to Windsor, Santa Rosa and potentially northern Napa Valley. Air quality in the upper North Bay will be moderate with some hourly readings in the unhealthy for sensitive groups range on the Air Quality Index scale. For the rest of the Bay Area, air quality is expected to be in the good to moderate range for the rest of the week.

The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for today, Sunday, December 8, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. Regional wood burning and easterly winds transporting air pollution into the Bay Area from the Central Valley have contributed to high overnight concentrations of fine particle pollution and unhealthy air quality. Although light northerly winds will bring some improvement later in the afternoon and evening, parts of the Bay Area will still experience unhealthy air quality throughout the day. Breezier northeasterly winds will bring more substantial improvement in air quality for Monday.  

The Air District is advising Bay Area residents that smoke from the Northern California wildfires will likely impact the region through the Labor Day weekend.

The Air District is announcing a significant expansion of the Clean Air Filtration Program, which will provide portable air filtration units to unhoused and low-income residents in impacted communities as well as to emergency and cooling centers Bay Area-wide. This is the first program of its kind and will help mitigate the potential health impacts of wildfires, especially for the Bay Area’s most vulnerable residents.
