Smoke from the Canadian wildfires is expected to impact air quality in the entire Bay Area on Wednesday and Thursday. Residents in affected areas should stay alert to news coverage and health warnings related to smoke. Check air quality at fire.airnow.gov and take steps to protect your health from smoke. On Monday, September 28, the Air District is hosting the last of a series of open houses to discuss the agency’s four new and amended draft petroleum refinery emissions reduction rules. This open house will be held at Lincoln Elementary School in Richmond starting at 6pm. The public comment period for these rules and amendments closes on Friday, Oct. 2.

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for wildfire smoke through Monday, September 14. This will be the 26th, 27th, and 28th consecutive Spare the Air Alert called. Smoke from the many fires throughout California, Oregon, and Washington is continuing to heavily impact the Bay Area and is forecast to produce unhealthy air quality in the region through Monday.
