Conservation Tip

Conserving energy protects air quality and offers many environmental and economic benefits. By saving energy and reducing our energy intensity, (the amount of energy needed to produce a given economic output), we can protect the environment without sacrificing economic growth and our quality of life.

Annual Bay Area Air Quality Summaries

Every year, the Air District publishes a table summarizing the air pollution data we collect from our Bay Area air quality monitoring network.

Our monitoring stations sample the ambient air at various locations in the Bay Area. At each station, we take readings of the levels of the major air pollutants for which health-based exposure limits have been set by the EPA and the State of California.

The pollution summary tables show the number of times each year that each station records pollutant concentrations in excess of the federal or California air quality standards. The tables also list the highest annual reading for each pollutant at each station.

Toxic Air Contaminant Control Program Annual Report

The Toxic Contaminant Control Program Annual Report is a reference for information about toxic air contaminants in the Bay Area. Toxic air contaminants are a distinct category of air pollutants, separate from the major pollutants addressed in the tables above for which the EPA has set health-based exposure limits. (For toxic air contaminants, it is typically difficult to identify levels of exposure which do not produce adverse health effects, since health effects may occur at extremely low levels.)
