The Clean Air Center Program provides funding for county agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area to create a network of clean air centers to mitigate the adverse public health impacts due to wildfires and other smoke events.

Noong ika-3 ng Disyembre, 2008, binago ng Lupon ng mga Direktor ng Distrito ng Pamamahala sa Kalidad ng Hangin ng Bay Area ang Regulasyon 8, Tuntunin 45: Mga Pagpapatakbo ng Pagpipinta ng Sasakyang De-motor at Gumagalaw na Kagamitan. Sinumang taong gumagawa ng mga pagpapatakbo ng muling pagpapakinis ng gumagalaw ay dapat magparehistro ng pagpapatakbo ng muling pagpapakinis ng gumagalaw sa BAAQMD at magbayad ng mga angkop na fee.

Ang mga charbroiler ay lumilikha ng mga pamparumi sa hangin na tulad ng Madaling Mawala na Organikong Timplada (Volatile Organic Compound, VOC) at particulate na bagay (PM). Ang mga VOC ay tumutugon sa ibang mga timplada sa atmospera upang bumuo ng lebel-ng-lupa na ozone, karaniwang tinatawag na ulap-usok. Ang mga pinong partikulo na kapantay ng o mas mababa kaysa 10 micron sa diyametro, karaniwang tinatawag na PM10, ay dumadaaan sa sistema ng bentilasyon at nagtutuloy sa atmospera.

Noong 1998, tinukoy ng Lupon ng mga Tagatulong sa Hangin ng California (California Air Resources Board, CARB) ang diesel na particulate na bagay (PM) bilang isang nakalalasong nagkokontamina sa hangin (TAC). Upang mabawasan ang pagkahantad ng publiko sa diesel PM, ang CARB ay nag-aproba sa maraming hakbang sa pangangasiwa na nakakaapekto sa malaking mayoriya ng mga makinang diesel na pinatatakbo sa California. Ang Distrito ng Pamamahala sa Kalidad ng Hangin ng Bay Area (Distrito ng Hangin) at ibang lokal na mga ahensiya sa kalidad ng hangin sa buong California ay inaatasan na magpatupad ng mga regulasyong ito na kilala rin bilang Mga Hakbang sa Pagkontrol ng Nakalalasong Dala ng Hangin (Airborne Toxic Control Measures, ATCM).
