The Air District developed the draft with members of its Community Advisory Council and four AB 617 Community Steering Committees. Under the policy, the Air District will:
- Provide transparency into legal enforcement while protecting confidential cases;
- Hold violators accountable and protect public health in vulnerable communities;
- Deter violations and reverse harms from inequitable development decisions; and
- Use litigation strategically to change behavior in overburdened communities.
The policy makes clear that the Air District will not tolerate air quality violations in any Bay Area community. An annual report to the Board of Directors and communities will track progress.
