Get an illustrative breakdown of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by pollutant, year, county, source sector and sub-sector.

This Bay Area Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory Data interactive dashboard contains:

  • Regional Summary: where you can view a summary of emissions in million metric tons of CO2-equivalent (MMTCO2e) by pollutant, sector, county, and year.
  • Emission Trends: where you can obtain a detailed breakdown of emissions by sector. sub-sector, and county from years 1990 to 2050.
  • Category Information: where you can find hierarchical sub-sector level descriptions of each category with the basis used to develop base year, historical years, and future years emissions.

The data shown in this visualization tool were used to support the Bay Area Regional Climate Action Planning (BARCAP) Initiative for the San Francisco-Oakland-Berkeley Metropolitan Statistical Area, available on the Bay Area Regional Climate Action Plan web page.

Note: Emissions from biogenic, natural and biological sources are not included here. Please refer to the California Air Resources Board Inventory page for more information.

Exploring the data:

  • The Regional Summary tab provides an overview of GHG emissions for the Bay Area for any particular year.
  • Dive deeper to get sub-sector level insights by clicking on ‘Total Regional Emissions’, followed by clicking on any sector name, and so on.
  • Get more insights by right-clicking on a graph element and selecting a ‘Drill Through’ option, if available.
  • The Emissions Trends tab provides a deeper look into the temporal trends of emissions of different sectors, groups and sub-sectors. The ‘Drill Through’ option provides source-category level information.

Tips on Viewing:

  • See any graph as a table by navigating to the upper right hand corner, selecting the ‘…’ and choosing ‘ Show as Table’.
  • All charts under ‘Emission Trends’ have an accompanying data table. You can select the ‘…’ to export data into an excel spreadsheet.
