Planned prescribed burning on Angel Island has been canceled.
Air quality is improving, and the Air District continues to monitor smoke across the region. Crews may remain on site today to extinguish remaining hot spots, but no additional prescribed burning is planned. Today’s Spare the Air Alert is for ozone and is separate from Tuesday's smoke impacts.

People's Air Grant Program
Learn about a one-time grant program that distributes funding to projects in impacted communities to reduce exposure to air pollution and address public health impacts.
The Air District’s Community Advisory Council developed the People’s Air Grant Program to distribute funding from a $3 million Community Benefit Fund. These funds are not derived from enforcement, penalty, or mitigation funds.
People’s Air Grant Program
The Air District has completed its application review and has developed funding recommendations, which will be considered by the Air District Board of Directors in October 2026. Applicants will be notified of their final funding status following Board consideration.
The application period for the People’s Air Grant Program opened on March 12, 2026, and closed on May 29, 2026. Grants will be awarded to support projects in impacted communities that improve air quality and reduce local air pollution disparities, equip impacted communities with tools and resources to reduce air pollution and improve public health outcomes, and support health care resources and services for people experiencing health impacts related to air pollution exposure. The maximum amount for an individual grant is $400,000 over two years.

Technical Assistance
Technical assistance was offered and prioritized for prospective applicants with fewer resources or limited grant experience. Prospective applicants seeking to discuss eligibility and readiness, community need and support, and/or the application process were invited to complete a technical assistance form by Friday, May 15, 2026 at 5:00 PM. Applicants who submitted requests by the deadline were eligible to continue receiving support through Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
