The Air District is announcing incentives of $1,200 through the Vehicle Buy Back Program for Bay Area residents to scrap 1998 and older vehicles to improve local air quality.

Starting July 1, 2024, the Air District will offer $1,500 to Bay Area residents to improve local air quality by scrapping their 1998 and older vehicles through the Vehicle Buy Back Program.

The Air District implements the Community Air Protection Incentives Program to reduce emissions and exposure in the Bay Area communities most impacted by air pollution by funding projects that clean up old, dirty heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. 

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke in the Napa Valley through tomorrow, Thursday, June 2. Smoke from the Old Fire in Napa County is expected to impact the Napa Valley. Isolated pockets of elevated air pollution levels are possible near the fire, however, pollution levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible and the smell of smoke may be present in the Napa Valley through Thursday.
