California Hot Spots Program

Learn about the steps needed to find air toxics hot spots, assess related health risks, and reduce those risks.

A “hot spot” is an area where air toxics levels are higher than in the overall region. This may be caused by emissions from a local facility.

The Air Toxics Hot Spots Program requires permitted industrial, commercial, and public facilities to report on the air toxics they release.
