The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert due to wildfire smoke from the Glass Fire in Napa and Sonoma counties through Saturday, October 10, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. While onshore winds will continue to blow smoke out of much of the Bay Area, localized impacts near the Glass Fire will continue.

The Air District is upgrading the air quality advisory that was in place to Spare the Air Alerts due to heat and wildfire smoke today, Friday, August 27, and tomorrow, Saturday, August 28. The burning of wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors is prohibited.

The Air District is announcing the availability of funds to install cleaner heating options for residents located in areas highly affected by wood smoke and areas with disproportionate impacts from air pollution. The Air District is announcing the start of the Winter Spare the Air season, Wednesday, November 1. The Air District calls Winter Spare the Air Alerts when air quality is forecast to be unhealthy due to fine particulate pollution, primarily from wood smoke. When an alert is in effect during the Winter Spare the Air season, from November 1 through February 28, it is illegal to burn wood, manufactured fire logs, or any other solid fuel both indoors and outdoors in the Bay Area for a full 24-hours.
