The Air District is announcing the start of the Spare the Air summer smog season on Monday, May 2. Millions of cars on our roadways each day remain the largest source of summertime smog pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in the Bay Area. The Spare the Air campaign encourages Bay Area residents to drive less and look for ways to share, shorten, or change their commutes to help reduce smog, traffic, and gridlock in the region.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is advising Bay Area residents that although the forecast indicates the region will not exceed the federal health standard for smog, conditions remain elevated for fire danger and potential smoke impacts. 

The Air District is announcing the launch of the 2017 Spare the Air summer campaign on May 1, which focuses on reducing smog, or ozone, pollution as well as greenhouse gases.

On April 27, the Air District launched the 2015 Spare the Air season, which focuses on reducing smog-forming pollution during the warmer months.  The summer Spare the Air program encourages Bay Area residents to reduce air pollution every day by rethinking their commute and avoiding driving alone.

On May 2, the Air District is launching the 2016 Spare the Air season, which focuses on reducing ozone, or smog-forming pollution during the warmer summer months. The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for Monday, October 4. Smoke from wildfires in Southern California is expected to continue impacting the Bay Area on Monday with smoky and hazy skies. Pollution levels are not expected to exceed federal health standards and no Spare the Air Alert is in effect for Monday. A Spare the Air Alert for ozone, or smog, remains in effect for Sunday, October 3.

Today, the Air District is issuing its fifth Spare the Air Alert for smog this year in addition to the ongoing Air Quality Advisory for wildfire smoke.
